Self Care Shiatsu – Exeter, Devon

Shiatsu is a nurturing and supportive form of therapy. It is a relaxing and enjoyable form of hands-on therapy, a form of massage through clothes. Shiatsu is also great for providing a structure of support for oneself.

In my Shiatsu treatments I nearly always provide recommendations to he client. These maybe around diet or lifestyle and can help the client support themselves between treatments.

I use Shiatsu to support myself and my family. It can be great to calm and ease distress for the kids. It also provides a structure for me to care for myself.

I have designed a course that introduces the principles of Shiatsu, so it can be use on oneself and on one’s friends and family. The course also introduces concepts within Shiatsu that can allow a great self care routine to happen.

If we don’t care for ourselves how do we care for those around us. If we actively take time to experience how we are and where we are we can gain perspective on our situation. With mindful care of ourselves come changes and personal growth. This benefits us but also those around us.

The next Shiatsu Self Care course is on Sunday 26th January. Details of the course can be found here

Supportive Shiatsu for a positive 2020

There is always a focus in early January to push the new year, new you drive. It seems a funny time of year to start crazy exercising regimes and crash diets.

Over indulging at Christmas is a strong motivation but deep winter is a time for quiet and rest. With deep winter reflection and meditation comes the energy to push through new growth in the Spring and blossom in the Summer.

Setting resolutions of what we leave behind in the old year and what we look to achieve in the new is really positive right now. Spring is the time to flesh out and explore the details of our plans. Right now is about just sitting with our thoughts and letting them quietly germinate in the soil.

Shiatsu can help keep you get in touch with the seasons and find your own rhythm. With rhythm comes fluidity, of mind and body. Easing of physical symptoms and lightness of thoughts and emotions.

The treatments are intuitive and tailored to the client’s exact needs, whatever they may be. This means you can just relax and know what you need is what you’re going to get. This deep relaxation can generate better energy levels, better sleep patterns and a calmer mind.

Shiatsu can help you connect with what is important to you. It can provide drive and focus to allow resolutions to be followed through and plans to come to fruition.

Shiatsu, in my experience, is beneficial for pain in general. It’s helped clients with joint pain and back pain, digestive and menstrual pain. I have helped clients to gain more mobility and flexibility in their joints, knees, necks, hips.

Shiatsu can help support the physical body and can also help ease mental and emotion strain. Living with physical complaints can affect the mental and emotional balance quite heavily.

So for 2020 how about some space for quiet reflection, regaining one’s balance and taking control of one physical and emotional wellbeing. Bring on the Shiatsu.

Getting started is easy, book in an initial session! We can discuss general health and wellbeing and you get 45 minutes of peaceful and relaxing hands on treatment. At the end I’ll give you an idea of how many sessions, and how regularly, you may need to begin to see a difference.

You can email me at amyhinkswright@yahoo.co.uk or call me or 07791 070837.

If this is the year to make some changes but you’re not sure how then try a Shiatsu.

Shiatsu for Sleep issues, Exeter, Devon

If you suffer from fatigue, insomnia, or any sleep or energy related issues you may want to try Shiatsu. This gentle but powerful hands-on therapy looks to balance the energy in the body, to re-balance the body.  When the body is in balance sleep can come more easily, energy levels can be higher & the body clock is more settled.

There are a number of things that are worth trying if you suffer with sleep or energy levels. There are the more obvious things; cutting out caffeine, cutting down on sugar & alcohol, eating earlier in the evening, staying away from screens near to bed time.

Shiatsu is based in Traditional Chinese Medicine. (TCM) This provides further suggestions that may be of help; meditation, eating fish & sea vegetables, sitting & stillness, some cardio exercise.  It is possible to give individual lifestyle & exercise recommendations as part of a session of Shiatsu.

Shiatsu may be able to help. A session is an hour with at least 45 minutes of hands-on work. At the very least Shiatsu provides a space away from daily life, it is a chance to relax, or at least feel how that may feel! It is deeply relaxing & allows the body & mind to rest but it is also energizing & can leave the client with higher energy levels.

Shiatsu is also a very supportive & confidential space where it is completely OK to feel how you feel & be how you want to be. This can provide a sense of relief & release alongside a sense of being held & supported.

Clients have mentioned that they have felt a buzz after a treatment that has lasted for sometime.  They have had deeper sleep than normal, they have change the times that they wake, they have woken less regularly.  They have felt less fatigue & mental strain.  They have felt mentally able to manage their situation more, make changes or achieve what they would like to with ease.

I’m always happy to talk Shiatsu so do get in touch with any questions or queries, if you would like to know more or would like to discuss if Shiatsu may be able to help you.

I work in Exwick, Exeter & also in Dawlish & Exmouth. I offer appointments most days, some evening & Saturday appointments.

Baby it’s Cold Outside! Shiatsu for warmth, Exeter, Dawlish & Exmouth, Devon

Woweee it’s as cold as they said it was going to be – my the wind is bitter & the cold is so sharp it gets into the bones & the core of the body.  It is showing up any old aches & pains & is so tiring, to get through the day & to keep the body burning enough to ward off the cold.

I am in Exeter this week, giving warming & energizing Shiatsu & I still have some spaces available – on Wednesday & Friday.  The Shiatsu Shed, the wooden cabin in my garden, is super cosy.  I have plenty of heaters & an electric blanket so getting on the mat & under the blanket can feel like getting into bed.

Shiatsu is a gentle hands-on therapy that looks to balance the energy in the body.  It can create a warmth in the core of the body & help with circulation right to the extremities. It can support the body’s natural immune system, to ward off coughs & colds.  Shiatsu can help with energy levels, providing more resources, to generate heat, & energy for movement, vital in this cold weather. It may also help to ease the aches & pains that show up in this bitter cold weather.

I work in Dawlish every other Friday & I am going to have a pop-up Shiatsu day next month.  This week I am at home in Exeter – if you would like a warming Shiatsu do get it touch through the ‘Contact Me’ page – I’m always happy to answer any questions too.

Keep warm this week:

  • Wear an extra pair of socks & even a pair in bed
  • Wrap a scarf around your lower back – keeping your Kidneys & Sacrum warm
  • Make a warming cup of fresh Ginger, Lemon & Honey
  • Wear a good hat & scarf around neck & dropped to also cover the chest

Shiatsu Support – Exeter & Dawlish, Devon

So very excited to receive a large parcel in the post today.

I was pretty upset when my trusty, but bottom of the range, massage chair broke just before Christmas. I was in the middle of a session of Shiatsus for the hard working staff at my son’s school. I had to give some of the Shiatsus to people whilst they sat on a normal chair. Hardly relaxing, having to support yourself, rather than leaning into a comfy chair.

Since the breakage I have been searching for a replacement. I was close to purchasing a replacement of similar quality to my original when I stumbled across a hardly used, top of the range chair.

I am super happy & have tried it out on my family already. It’s really comfy & easily adjusts to fit any shape or size of client.

So watch out for upcoming events as I will now be giving Shiatsu on this beauty of a chair.

My next event is in Broadclyst, near Exeter – details can be found here

Shiatsu for Stress & Anxiety

It is the season to be stressed, isn’t it? There’s nothing like the festive season to bring out the stress. So much to do & so little time to do it.

Stress & anxiety are by-products of our society. We have so much to do, we’ve forgotten to feel the seasons & just push through the cold winter months as if the days are long & the weather is ok!

Shiatsu can help ease mental stress & strain:

  • Shiatsu by-passes the analytical & allows the body to sense how it feels.
  • The nervous system can be calmed by the strong connective touch of Shiatsu.
  • Shiatsu promotes deep & restful sleep, allowing the body to recover from the day
  • Extra energy after a Shiatsu can give the client resolve & focus
  • Shiatsu creates a safe & secure environment that can give a good level of support to a client
  • Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing & calming treatment

There are no spaces before Christmas now but I am back in the new year. Starting in Exeter on the 3rd January & in Dawlish on the 10th.

I have gift vouchers available for Christmas – & still just possible to get these sent out.

Fighting colds with Shiatsu – Exeter & Dawlish, Devon

Wow well the pressure & excitement of Christmas getting near, along with this cold weather, has left me & my family all under the weather. What I love about Shiatsu is that you can use it on yourself & your family.

I have developed sinusitis but have managed to keep it at bay using a number of preasure points on the face. I have also developed a little Sciatica which I have eased completely with supportive work & stretches.

My boys have been ‘bunged up’ & have struggled to sleep because of this. There are pressure points on the arm & hand which are really helpful in relieving this & has allowed us all to get some sleep!

This time of year is stressful for most, me included. I have used relaxation points & points to stop the mind racing. I have used meditation & stretching to help support myself.

I’m always happy to show how Shiatsu can be used in daily life on family & friends. I can do this has part of a normal treatment or arrange training.

I am out of treatment spaces now for this year, in Exeter &  Dawlish. I’m back in Exeter on 3rd January & Dawlish on 10th January.

Face Massage/ Natural Face Lift – Exeter & Dawlish, Devon

I’m getting lots of practice for my new qualification in Natural Face Lifts. I’m set up again tonight before more practice.

The natural face lifts seem to have good results with the ladies I’ve practiced on all being very happy.

It uses the Shiatsu points on the face & has I get more comfortable with the treatment I am melding the face lifts with Shiatsu.

It’s an incredibly relaxing treatment, more than you would imagine, as just focussed on the face.

It treats the whole body & creates deep rest, relaxation & calmness from face to feet!

I am still looking for case studies through January for this – then from February I plan to charge full price.

Do email me at amyhinkswright@yahoo.co.uk or call me on 07791 070837 to book.

Shiatsu in the Winter time – Exeter & Dawlish, Devon

I’ve noticed from my clients that the cold weather is showing up all their aches & pains & areas of weakness.

Whilst working on people I have noticed less energy in general in people.

It’s understandable in this cold weather. We should be hibernating really, conserving our energy. There is such a demand on us & it becomes difficult to find space to rest & recuperate.

This cold winter weather relates to the Water elements. This is within 5 Element diagnosis, part of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The meridians in this element are very important. They hold our core energy. If they are over-used they are unable to feed the other energies in out body.

What can we do to support this energy in this cold weather?

  • Rest as much as possible
  • Meditate or sit still & quiet
  • Get to bed as early as you can
  • Wrap up warm – including neck & around the abdomen area
  • Eat watery broths, fish & sea vegetables

Also obviously Shiatsu can really help a lot. It can create more resource in the body, in can relieve pain & symptoms & support mental strain.

I have a few spaces left before Christmas, both in Exeter & Dawlish.

What does a Shiatsu involve? Exeter & Dawlish, Devon

Shiatsu is a relaxing but energising treatment. It is a hands on therapy given through clothes & on a futon mat on the floor. Although it can be given on a chair or couch if it maybe difficult to get down or back up from the floor.

Shiatsu is an all over body treatment, it can be focused specially on one area of the body. Similarly the whole body can be treated from one area. Each treatment is specially tailored to that person on that day. Every Shiatsu is different.Shiatsu massage uses the same points & meridians, lines of energy, that acupuncture uses. Shiatsu looks to balance the energy in body. This balance can ease pain, symptoms & provide support.
Clients have mentioned that they feel more energy after a treatment, that they feel more focussed & have more drive, that they have had relief from symptoms, that they have slept better, needed the loo less, had better joint flexibility.Shiatsu is a safe & secure environment & is totally confidential. It can help support emotional distress, stress, anxiety & depression.  I have clients who have come with work related stress & also people who are going through big changes in their personal lives.I work in Exwick, Exeter & Dawlish & I’m also happy to discuss Shiatsu so do get in touch with any questions, through the ‘contact me’page.
