  • Shiatsu for Joint Pain

It’s the time of year when aches and pains start to show themselves and any issues with joints become more obvious. Whether it’s arthritic or an other issue joint pain can be very tiresome and demoralizing. The interesting thing is that my experience is that Shiatsu can be incredibly helpful and successful in reducing joint pain.

In simple terms Shiatsu looks to balance the energy in the body. If there is a lack of energy in a joint, causing discomfort or pain, bringing energy to that area and through that joint can rebalance the body and ease the symptoms. Shiatsu does this by working along the Meridians, lines of energy, that run throughout the body. These are also used in Acupuncture and Acupressure.

There are also some rules with joint pain that may help you manage the condition between treatments.

    1. Joints love warmth – wrap up, use a hot water bottle or heat pad whenever possible.
    2. Joints like gentle movement – gently exercise your joint, never pushing to much, look to find a balance between rest and movement.
    3. Joints like care and attention – get lots of Shiatsu or other support, ask a partner or friend to hold the joint, do points 1 and 2

If you suffer from joint pain then do get in touch to discuss if Shiatsu might help, until then get into bed with a hot water bottle and a nice warm drink and take it easy!

  • Stress busting Shiatsu, Exeter, Devon

    Stress busting Shiatsu, Exeter, Devon

Just three working weeks left before Christmas 🎄🎅🎄🎅🎄

I have a few spaces left before the holidays. I’m already full for the week commencing 10th December but I have a couple of spaces next week and some in the week commencing 17th.

There’s a couple of evening appointments available for those of you working and some day time ones as well.

It’s been a great Autumn for personal and physical movement. My sessions have involved a lot of breakthroughs, change of physical symptoms, drop in pain and opportunity to move on.

There’s still time to get a Shiatsu in before the end of the year. Shiatsu can really warm the body, getting the energy flowing, the circulation working at its best.

Shiatsu can also help with stress, which at this time of year can be pretty high. 😉😍😉😍

Shiatsu can provide relief from pain and can ease tension. It is also great for energising the body and motivating the client.

So give me a call on 07791 070837 or email me at amyhinkswright@yahoo.co.uk to arrange a Shiatsu before Christmas.

  • Shiatsu for the Soul, Exeter, Devon

Shiatsu for the Soul, Exeter, Devon

Shiatsu is a physical form of therapy. However it can help people understand and explore their feelings, look at their spiritual selves and question the core beliefs they hold about themselves.

The story of our life is written in our bodies, any experiences are held in physical form. Emotional and mental stresses and tensions manifest into physical strains and pains.

We can often be aware of tension based on work or lifestyle; tight shoulders from computer work, sore lower back from lifting, tight thighs from cycling.

The story our body tells is often a lot more complex; childhood pains held in the pelvis, relationship difficulties holding our diaphragm tight, work stress causing tension in our rib cage; spiritual distress creating head pain.

We may not be aware of what our bodies are holding but maybe aware of the emotional and mental issues we have. Maybe we have even been to a talking therapy to work those issues through. The body may well be still holding the distress.

Shiatsu starts the healing process from the body. The tensions and stresses in the body present themselves as the treatment takes place. Emotions, mental or spiritual attachments to the physical can be felt, thanks to being held by a safe and secure physical touch.

As the physical tension releases, the mental or emotional stress can also be relieved. The relief may result in a number of ways; lightness of thought, peace of mind, an understanding of how the client relates to their stress, a realisation of the self beliefs held around the pain.

Shiatsu helps tension and stress release in a healthy and positive way. It can result in; a fluidity of thoughts and emotions; things just working more easily; options being possible; a clear way to go forward; a calmness of the soul.

Shiatsu looks to balance the energy in the body, when the energy is balanced there is a warmth in the body, mind and soul. At this time of year particularly this can be so good on so many levels.

  • Shiatsu event in Devon

    Shiatsu event in Devon

I will be giving taster sessions of Shiatsu at an event in Budleigh Salterton later this month. I have attended this busy and interesting event before. I had such a great time introducing and reintroducing people to Shiatsu.

Details of the event can be found here

The tasters will be 20 minutes long. Although they will be on a massage chair, rather than a futon mat on the floor, they will give a good idea if what Shiatsu is about.

If you haven’t had Shiatsu before, or haven’t had Shiatsu from me before, this is a great way to get a sense of what it may be like to have a full treatment.

If you can make it to the event come and say hello, and if you fancy book in a session.

  • Shiatsu at Samhain, Exeter, Devon

    Shiatsu at Samhain, Exeter, Devon

This is a special time of year. The change of season is a powerful energetic time and the Celtic celebration of Samhain fits nicely with this.

Samhain is the end of harvest and the beginning of winter. It is the end of the old year and the beginning of the new.

It is a time to look back and appreciate what we have learnt and achieved over the year, but also a time of light and looking forward to what we would like to achieve in the new year.

We can say goodbye to things we are holding onto, let go of past issues and concerns. Whilst we look forward to the next chapter. What a gift to have a chance to drop things that tie us, that hold us back.

Samhain is also a time to honour and remember those lost to us. This is the obvious connection to Halloween and All Saints Day.

Tonight I take time to toast those to be remembered, make a blessing and say farewell to what I no longer need and make a resolution or two about what I would like for myself for the next year.

My Shiatsu practice helps me recognise and move with the seasons, to be in tune with the energy of the time of year. It allows me to be present, in the moment and to breathe deeply, rather than looking to resolve through thoughts and analytical thinking.

Shiatsu aims to balance the body, so things just work and move right, energy, emotions and thoughts flow well. Also the body becomes in tune with the seasons and the natural energetic changes.

If you feel in need of some motivation or focus, if you could do with some deep warming and relaxation, if you want some support with letting go then you may want to try a Shiatsu.

Happy Samhain to you all xx

  • Shiatsu in the Autumn

    Shiatsu in the Autumn

Shiatsu is a gentle and supportive form of therapy that can help the body and mind rebalance. This is particularly helpful as the weather cools and the season changes.

Autumn is a time to let go of the old, as the trees show us when dropping their leaves with ease. It is a time to look at our personal boundaries, if we give too much or offer too little. It is a great time to do some organising, clear out our clutter and get to grips with that paperwork.

If our energy is out of balance at this time of year we may feel pushed and pulled by others. We may feel pain, due to holding onto or letting go too heavily of our past hurts. We may feel a lack of motivation or a loss of focus. It may lead to depression and a wish to retreat from life. It can result in sinus or bronchial issues, or shoulder pain

Shiatsu looks to balance the energy in the body, giving it a hand to do what it can do naturally and easily when balanced.

Also Shiatsu can meet the client where and how they want to be met, therefore it can help to ease physical conditions and emotional, mental or spiritual imbalances.

If you feel you would like some supportive work to help you this season then do get in touch on 07791 070837 or at amyhinkswright@yahoo.co.uk

  • Shiatsu Holidays, Exeter, Devon

    Shiatsu Holidays, Exeter, Devon

I’m having a bit of time of next week, it’s half term so the family and I are off for a break.

I’m back to work on Monday 29th and do have spaces for Shiatsu available that week.

Also on Tuesday 30th I’m holding an open day, where 30 minute tasters are just £10. These open days seem to be popular so there are just a couple of spaces left. If you haven’t had Shiatsu before this is a great introduction.

Autumn is a special time of year. It is time where we can learn from the trees and let go of the things we don’t need. Also it can be hard to adjust to the changes of season, particularly when the weather is so changeable.

Shiatsu can help support our own self-care, help us feel more flexible and adjustable to situations. It can allow us to let go of tension and stress in the body, releasing both physical and emotional strain.

Do contact me if you are interested in booking when I get back.
