Shiatsu Open Day – Exeter, Devon

I’m having an open day on Tuesday 4th October.

What this means is 30 minute taster sessions all day for just £10.

I get frustrated that Shiatsu isn’t as well known as some therapies and that people don’t know what is involved or the benefits of this amazing therapy.

So every so often I do these open days. They give people a chance to see what it’s all about. What I’m like as a practitioner. Whether Shiatsu might help them.

The taster sessions are taking place at my home practice in Exwick, Exeter.

My space is warm and cozy now the days are drawing in. Plus it’s amazing what can be done in even a short session.

I am asking people to call or message to book. My number is 07791 070837. You can email me on amyhinkswright@yahoo.co.uk or contact me through the contact me page.

Autumn and Shiatsu

Today’s that day of the year…..the first day I’ve turn on the electric blanket 🔥🔥

I resist this day – feeling the loss of the warmer days – but once I give in (hahaha) it leads to cozy, warm treatments

A change in the seasons means a change in treatments…..deep, nurturing, warming work….…easing tiredness and fatigue……….creating an inner glow and getting the energy to flow!….

So welcome to the warm and cozy Shiatsu shed and Autumn treatments 🧡🍂🧡

Grounding and Shiatsu

You may get people telling you that they think you’re very ‘grounded’ person or the opposite there you’re ‘flighty’ or ‘off with the fairies’

Either way you may not be grounded energetically – really connected to the ground- embodying your legs and feet.

This may be because of too much over thinking, it may be from pushing through life, it may come from past trauma or be because of an injury or accident.

Being grounded is helpful for flow of energy and this may then lead to an ease of symptoms.

Being grounded may lead to better cognitive abilities, better trust in your own process and believing your gut instinct, better posture and a trust and connection with nature and the world that surrounds you.

Shiatsu helps with grounding, within one session normally. Within a few sessions a person may feel more centred and calm.

There are some really easy exercises for grounding that people can practise between sessions.

Getting your shoes off and walking outside – doesn’t have to be in the rain! Getting some soil between your toes.

Also try slow deliberate walking – I like doing this in a busy supermarket! Thinking about every movement your feet are making, feeling how it feels to put each part of your foot down.

I also like imagining I have heavy weights straight my ankles, slowing my movements and making my feet really work.

I am a massive fan of a simple exercise practised daily and I love how quickly I feel grounded if I do any of these activities now.

I’ve done these enough to get the results almost instantaneously. A calmer mind, useful on an altercation! A sense of connection to nature and the ground. A feeling of energy moving and flowing throughout my body.

Why not give these a try for a couple of weeks and see if they help you.

Shiatsu and Adjustments

So my mind has turned to adjustments and adjusting….shifts and changes….and how tricky all this can be….

As a family we are adjusting to the school rhythm – the impact that has on us – how we feel about it….the seasons feels like they have changed suddenly – cooler, darker, wetter…..

Also I am adjusting in myself……my body is changing now I am late 40’s…..

So what’s the impact?…..

For me a lethargy…a drive to hide away..a physical sense of resistance in my body….none of this feels great but I hear my body and the results of changes taking place….

It’s not always easy…..my poor boys are struggling so much with transition back to school……

It takes time and experience to know that adjusting and transitions do bring us to new places…..

Allowing a slump is ok…..in my opinion!….when there is a little energy in the body then gentle stretching and movement helps me….

If you are feeling a shift that needs adjustment I hear you….

In amongst this time of change Shiatsu brings me flow and release and relief – and that’s just giving it!…..

Shiatsu and Anxiety

When I asked my clients what Shiatsu had helped with anxiety and stress were mentioned a couple of times.

Shiatsu looks at the body, and energy in the body, as a whole – working to help balance the flow of energy across the body.

The body tells the story of how lives and emotions so helping with the flow of energy can relieve the tension and holding in the body that comes from feeling anxious or stressed.

In my experience working the body can help the mind, giving relief of symptoms and sometimes giving a sense of perspective on the mental challenges being faced.

Sometimes I talk with a client and look to find simple exercises or lifestyle changes that may allow the client to manage their issues between sessions.

It’s often good to have a few Shiatsu sessions close together, at the beginning of treatment, and then look to extend the distance between the appointments.

It is a pleasure and privilege to work with people to help them better and manage their health, be it mental or physical or often a mix of both.

Do feel to contact me to find out more. I’m always happy to chat Shiatsu and I’m also happy to provide long distance support, ideas and tips that may help people suffering from anxiety and or stress.
