  • Watch this Space!….

I have been quiet, blog-wise, on this page.Β  I dunno, you get out of the habit..life gets in the way…..before you know it it’s been an age with a blog post.

I have been busy…..Shiatsu, in my home practice, in Exwick, Exeter, Devon.

I’ve been building my counselling experience, and beginning to create space in my private practice to incorporate Counselling, alongside Shiatsu.

On those lines I will be creating a new website for both Counselling and Shiatsu.

I will bring all the blogs I have written here. Some of it is useful, I think!

So watch this space… a new practice is on its way.

  • Feet and Shiatsu

    Feet and Shiatsu

    Let’s talk feet!

They work hard – keeping us moving through our busy lives.

They get ignored and just get on with it.

I can tell a lot about the whole body when working the feet…….and Shiatsu allows me to work the whole body by working the feet!

In my experience an issue with the feet indicates something else going on in the body……..a weak lower back…..issues with the pelvis……a lack of energy in the centre of the body….

Most people (some people hate it) love having their feet worked……feeling held and supported…..tension eased…… recognition of the hard work life can be ….

The whole body is key to Shiatsu…..working the whole body from the feet…..or including every bit of the body in a treatment…….creating a flow of energy can ease symptoms…..plus a treatment is relaxing and soothing…..what not to like!

  • Special Annual Shiatsu Day

    Special Annual Shiatsu Day

It’s a very important day in my Shiatsu year today.

Around this time every year I switch the electric blanket on my Shiatsu mat on!

It means it is cold enough for the mat to chill right down over night and the extra warmth is needed to warm it – and generally the bodies of clients on it as well.

It signifies the move towards cosy and nurturing treatments.

Time for Shiatsus to be boosting and warming.

The Shiatsu Shed – at my home in Exeter – comes into its own now. It offers such a cosy, warming and welcoming space over the colder months.

Plus I can lie down in-between treatments – and while I write blogs! – and warm and nurture my own body.

  • Lull before the Storm – Shiatsu in Exeter

Lull before the Storm – Shiatsu in Exeter

I was sat having a cup of coffee before Monday and the week begins and was remembered that taking time over small things is important.

The Autumn is going to be a lot. I have my beautiful Shiatsu practice, my kids and the house and I am in the last term of my counselling course

That is feeling like a lot of plates to keep spinning. The question is where is the space for the things I enjoy…..hence the slow coffee this morning and the recognition that the lull is super important!

I am a big fan of small changes leading to big differences so a coffee may seem small but I relished and enjoyed it and took some time to see how I was feeling and where I was at.

Checking in with myself is something I do more and more regularly. I’m lucky after a lot of body work my body lets me know how I am and what’s going on for me.

This morning I felt quite settled – if not a little resistant to the Autumnal feel in the air and the change of season.

I am also excited about the changes coming in my practice next year – I hope to be qualified and practicing Counselling alongside Shiatsu in the Spring.

Halfway through Monday now and definitely in the storm but watching and appreciating the quiet moments.

    Shiatsu, Exeter, Devon

Good Monday Morning! How is your week shaping up?

I am ready to get into a week of Shiatsu treatments, in my special treatment space – know fondly as the Shiatsu Shed!

Shiatsu works on many levels so I get to work with a lot of different clients…..those with pain and physical concerns, those with stress and anxiety, those with fatigue and sadness.

I love that Shiatsu meets the client where and how they would like to be met.

Along with being a physically satisfying experience it can be nurturing, supportive and transformational.

I have watched my clients take control of their situation – be it a bad back, chronic fatigue or a bad life situation – and start to make steps towards a healthier space.

I am looking forward to another week or being in the privilege place of supporting and facilitating people’s journeys.

  • Flu, colds and Shiatsu- Exeter, Devon

Flu, colds and Shiatsu- Exeter, Devon

The beginning of his year started with me recovering from the flu – that lots of people seemed to have had

Often with colds and flu I find my self drawn to cleaning and organising activities……

I go with this within reason!  – as this is a helpful activity for the Lung and Large Intestine Energies

I find I have clearer thoughts and a better mindset after a good cleaning session…..also bringing the heart rate up, which cleaning can  do, is also helpful or these energies

Do you find you clean or organise after a cold?

Do you have other habits you find helpful?

As a Shiatsu practitioner I am always looking to build a picture of my clients and often help….

These habits will fall right into the bigger diagnostic picture……or be helpful for the imbalance being experienced!….

I’d love to hear what habits you find yourself doing….and I’m very happy to provide feedback if you’d like it…..why you may have the habits you have ……whether they are supportive or possibly showing an imbalance

  • Shiatsu in the new year

    Shiatsu in the new year

Happy New Year everyone. I’m back giving Shiatsu after a quiet winter break

I hope for balance this year – juggling priorities is not my favourite pastime. I am promising myself spaces and to gently manage my family/ work/ life commitments!

    Let’s see how it goes….

What do you hope for in 2023 – any gentle letting go you can do? – any focus you can listen to?

There seems to be so many people starting the year with flu. Recovery-wise Shiatsu is helpful for fatigue and muscle aches and pains. It’s supportive and nourishing so great to help get back up and going.

I’ve got my usual offering available – Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in the day. Tuesdays and Thursdays in the evening.

I’m always happy to chat Shiatsu so do get on touch by email – amyhinkswright@yahoo.co.uk or through the contact me page.

    Here’s to a good start to 2023

    Shiatsu and Counselling- Exeter, Devon

So this photo is me walking to my course – 4 weeks to go till the end of year one. Feels like yesterday that I was starting out…..

I have learnt so much, about another therapeutic way to support people, about myself.

It has informed and deepened my Shiatsu practice. My Shiatsu has informed and supported my way of being whilst learning.

I am looking forward to next year when I begin my practise hours but not looking forward to my last essay and prepping for my competencing to practice test.

Here’s to new things – new challenges – shifts and changes – endings and beginnings

  • Shiatsu for Christmas? Exeter, Devon

    Shiatsu for Christmas? Exeter, Devon

I decided it was time to get some proper, business-like, gift vouchers. I’m really pleased with how they have come out and I hope people will be pleased to receive them.

I can send these beauties out – to the purchaser or the gift receiver. I can also send electronic vouchers out.

I often ask for treatments for birthday or Christmas and think a voucher is a lovely present.

Vouchers can be for any denomination – so you can ask for a voucher and then the buyer can decide what they can afford.

If you are interested in buying vouchers or would like to know more about Shiatsu do hey in touch. I have a contact me page or you can call 07791 070837
