Shiatsu and Digestion, Exeter, Devon

I do have clients who come specifically due to issues with their digestion. However more commonly clients come with another issue, maybe back pain or a sore neck, for instance. They will then mention their poor digestion more as an afterthought.

It is interesting to hear people talk about, or not talk about, their digestion. As a vital part of our health and wellbeing it is often dismissed as something that just has to be lived with.

Clients with IBS, for instance, often support themselves well but don’t always believe that their intestines can work any better than they currently do. With Shiatsu support their intestines can be more consistent and feel stronger.

Clients with a stomach imbalances, such as acid reflux and indigestion don’t always realise with gentle shiatsu work the issue can be eased and relieved.

I have had a number of clients with gallbladder, liver and pancreas issues. Again with gentle shiatsu treatment, and some recommendations these issues can be supported and eased.

Shiatsu can be really helpful in boosting and supporting the digestive system generally. It is also good at providing focused work on one particular area of the system.

Also as part of a Shiatsu treatment I often offer exercises and lifestyle recommendations. This can really help with digestion issues, allowing a client to support their bodies between treatments.

This is me doing self abdominal massage, which I can show clients how to do themselves. Great for keeping the digestive system moving and healthy.

I love working with clients to help them change their situation. My sessions are very open and safe. Shiatsu is a very gentle and non-intrusive form of therapy.

Watching a client feeling stronger and healthier is a joy. A client can feel so much healthier in body and mind once food is being processed, digested, absorbed, and waste excreted, efficiently.

Few tips for good digestion.

1. Chew, chew, chew. Take your time don’t wolf down your food. This means your stomach as to do less breaking down.

2. Listen to your body. You know what foods feed your body and which ones don’t feel so good.

3. Rest if you can. Take a little time after eating to allow your body to focus on the task in hand – digesting the meal.

Shiatsu Support – Exeter & Dawlish, Devon

So very excited to receive a large parcel in the post today.

I was pretty upset when my trusty, but bottom of the range, massage chair broke just before Christmas. I was in the middle of a session of Shiatsus for the hard working staff at my son’s school. I had to give some of the Shiatsus to people whilst they sat on a normal chair. Hardly relaxing, having to support yourself, rather than leaning into a comfy chair.

Since the breakage I have been searching for a replacement. I was close to purchasing a replacement of similar quality to my original when I stumbled across a hardly used, top of the range chair.

I am super happy & have tried it out on my family already. It’s really comfy & easily adjusts to fit any shape or size of client.

So watch out for upcoming events as I will now be giving Shiatsu on this beauty of a chair.

My next event is in Broadclyst, near Exeter – details can be found here

Shiatsu for Pregnancy, Exeter & Dawlish, Devon

As Shiatsu is a gentle & supportive therapy it can be perfect for mums to be, women in labour & post natal mums. It can support the body & remedy any pregnancy issues.

Shiatsu works on the principal of creating balance within the body.  Balance gives the client a sense of ‘rightness’ & flow, physically, emotionally, mentally & spiritualy.  This flow helps the body achieve what it needs to within pregnancy, labour & afterwards.

Shiatsu can help with many prenatal, labour & postnatal concerns, issues, pains & discomforts.  Restoring balance can help with morning sickness & heartburn & tiredness.  Shiatsu can help physical issues such as odema & pelvis pain.  It can also help support the mum to be with any emotional concerns they may be facing.

Shiatsu can be used for induction of labour, bringing it on naturally. The contraindicated points can be given to the client to use themselves.  Similarly the points helpfully through labour can be provided, for the birth partner or mother to use.  The points can help relieve pain, provide comfort when needed & slow or speed up labour.

After birth there is a level of support a mum requires. It is one of the most special times in life but with the high levels of nurture the mother is providing someone nuturing the mother can be incredibly important.  If the labour has been tough in any way then this is even more important. Shiatsu can restore balance in the body that can resolve physical & emotional issues quickly, allowing mum & baby to get on with their life together.

I work in Exwick, Exeter, & Dawlish, Devon. For late pregnancy or early postnatal appointments it maybe possible to arrange home visits. For general information about Shiatsu & my practice here in Exeter, Devon go to the About page.

I’m really happy to discuss any concerns & issues & whether Shiatsu may be able to help.  Feel free to ring me or contact me through the ‘contact me’ page.

Shiatsu for Pregnancy – Exeter, Devon

Pregnancy is such a special time for a woman, it’s magical as the body does the most indredible things. Pregnant ladies get told they are ‘blooming’ & they do often look so well. There are times in most pregancy when it is difficult. Tiredness is a big issue, especially at the beginning. Most people are aware of morning sickness but nausea or sickness can be all day, & night, & sometimes for the whole pregnancy.

A woman’s body generally knows what it’s doing & often when giving a Shiatsu it is just supporting what the body is doing. Sometimes the body needs more help. Sickness can be eased & tiredness can be limited with Shiatsu massage.

Sometimes the body struggles physically & needs help with flow of blood & fluids, to ease swollen ankles for examples. The pelvis takes a lot of weight as the pregnancy goes on, it is pressed down & the small joints in the pelvic area begin to ache or hurt. Shiatsu can be really helpful for relieving pain & supporting the pelvis so that it can withstand the weight.  The body can be affected in many ways as so much space is taken up by baby, reflux & heartburn can also be eased with Shiatsu massage.

Shiatsu massage can also be used to jump start labour. Induction treatments can be arranged when full term has been reached. Shiatsu can also be used to turn the baby if they are in a difficult position for birth. In labour Shiatsu can be helpful with a lot of things, exhaustion, pain, quickening the Labour.

For pregnant women Shiatsu can take place at any time. Some women chose to wait until 12 weeks before they have Shiatsu massage. Generally I give Shiatsu at my practice in Exwick, Exeter but home visits can arranged for later pregnancy.
