Shiatsu, Exeter, Devon

Good Monday Morning! How is your week shaping up?

I am ready to get into a week of Shiatsu treatments, in my special treatment space – know fondly as the Shiatsu Shed!

Shiatsu works on many levels so I get to work with a lot of different clients…..those with pain and physical concerns, those with stress and anxiety, those with fatigue and sadness.

I love that Shiatsu meets the client where and how they would like to be met.

Along with being a physically satisfying experience it can be nurturing, supportive and transformational.

I have watched my clients take control of their situation – be it a bad back, chronic fatigue or a bad life situation – and start to make steps towards a healthier space.

I am looking forward to another week or being in the privilege place of supporting and facilitating people’s journeys.

Shiatsu and Counselling- Exeter, Devon

So this photo is me walking to my course – 4 weeks to go till the end of year one. Feels like yesterday that I was starting out…..

I have learnt so much, about another therapeutic way to support people, about myself.

It has informed and deepened my Shiatsu practice. My Shiatsu has informed and supported my way of being whilst learning.

I am looking forward to next year when I begin my practise hours but not looking forward to my last essay and prepping for my competencing to practice test.

Here’s to new things – new challenges – shifts and changes – endings and beginnings

Hello Monday- Autumn is here!

We’ve woken up to a misty, cool air morning here in Exeter, Devon. Autumn is definitely here and I am looking forward to seeing what patterns occur in my Shiatsu treatments this week.

There are particular Meridians – lines of energy- that relate to each season. When the seasons change often the focus of my treatments changes too.

Autumn is the time that relates to the Lung and Large Intestine Meridians. This is the time to let go and move on.

Both these Meridians are related to the element of Metal. They are around the emotional issues of grief and personal boundaries, along with clarity of mind.

To get going this week – and to get going with Autumn – below is a stretch for the Lung and Large Intestine Meridians. To begin to get into the feel and idea of the Autumn energy.

As with all stretching go gently, listen to your body, don’t push it and warm up and warm down.

Great Shiatsu stretch for Autumn

These two Meridians also enjoy cardiovascular exercise- so get out in the fresh air for a walk. Doesn’t have to be long or fast, choose your pace, listen to your body.

You may also want to do some cleaning and organising (you are not obliged to!) Getting things organised or scrubbing your cupboards is in time with the Metal element and these Meridians.

Have a good week whatever you are getting up to. I’m always here for advice on individual exercises and recommendation.

Lumbar support work – for back ache and boosting vital energy
Working the occipital ridge with client in side position- to ease tension in the head
Working the upper and middle back – to help with back ache, tension and flow of energy
Loosening tension in the neck and head with client in the seated position

The Shiatsu Shed, Exeter, Devon

Really missing my job now. I have enjoyed making the most of the family time but the longer the lockdown goes on the more I am missing what giving Shiatsu gives me.

Whilst supporting clients to work towards their own health, happiness and wellbeing I also get a chance todo this for myself. I am missing being part of the therapeutic journey.

I also have a quiet, calm and special place to practice. Fondly nicknamed (by me) as the Shiatsu Shed. It is actually a shared space, with many husband who practices meditation teaching in there too.

At the moment the Clematis is blooming beautifully outside the window. This is one of my favourite times to practice Shiatsu as I can catch a glimpse of this beautiful plant through the window. The Shiatsu Shed is a great place to practice, even in the rain or cold. I even gave a Shiatsu whilst a thunder storm took place above.

It is a special place to provide a safe and secure environment for healing to take place. I can’t wait to get back in there. Hoping it won’t be long until I can get back into the flow. Until them I’ll make do with watching the Clematis.

Shiatsu and Mental Wellbeing

Today is mental health day, which is great, highlighting this often hidden health issue. As a society we are getting better at acknowledging mental health issues and how important it is to support them. There is still a long way to go but great to see how many mentions of world mental hlath day I have seen today.

Using touch Shiatsu can help support a client’s physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects. How great not to have to try and dissect and analyse your feelings or concerns, simply to feel how you are when you are held by the practitioners touch.

The Shiatsu approach can bypass the mind, where we can get caught up in trying to understand and remedy our issues. Shiatsu is a chance to be still and feel in our bodies what affect how lives are having on us.

Shiatsu looks to find balance in the body, when there is balance there is relief and release of physical tension. With the release of the physical tension also comes release of mental and emotional tensions.

A Shiatsu treatment is a safe and secure space where a client can be however they want to be. A client can be anxious, stressed, nervous, frightened even. A session can still be a success no matter how the client is, they can leave feeling emotionally supported and with a lighter mental load.

Just having a space where you can be whatever and however you want can help a client. Often it can be hard to express to those close to us how we are mentally and emotionally. We don’t want to burden our parents, partners, friends. A Shiatsu treatment is exactly the right place to voice how you feel and what is happening for you. Some clients feels they are no longer managing on their own, they have the support of Shiatsu and a therapist.

It is such a privilege to be able to support and facilitate clients as they make positive changes to their health, be it physical, emotional or mental. It is great to watch people regain their confidence and self belief, to have some sense of control of their situation rather than feeling their situation or condition controls them.

So anyone is welcome and supported in my practice. Anything g can be discuused or not discussed. Everyone can be the way they need to be.

Happy however you are day.
